A licensed conveyancer is someone who has completed a course with an approved institution which specialises in conveyancing. A solicitor will have a law degree along with post-graduate training which includes conveyancing training. The term conveyancer is commonly used to describe either a specialist conveyancer or a lawyer who provides conveyancing services.
Both usually offer fixed-fee conveyancing services with similar rates but solicitors can give broad legal advice and help you navigate legal issues that arise outside of the conveyance.
You’re very welcome to, but it’s not essential. Please feel free to note us as your solicitor/conveyancer on the contract or let the real estate agent know. Once we receive the contract we will be in touch (remember to include your contact details on the contract) to advise re next steps.
How We Can Help You Buy and Sell
If you are buying or selling your house Advocate Lawyers can help. We offer fixed price conveyancing but with quality legal advice. We will take you with us every step of the conveyance to ensure that you are comfortable and informed.
For most people, their purchase or sale will be the largest transaction they ever engage in. Issues such as stamp duty, capital gains tax or easements on title can cause headaches later on if you don’t receive proper advice at the time, you receive or transfer property. It’s important to discuss your purchase or sale with your representative so that you get proper advice catered for your circumstances.
If you are thinking of purchasing, it’s worth having a chat to us before you do. In Tasmania, it’s common for purchasers to enter a contract before they speak to a lawyer so it’s important to know what you’re looking for. If you have never purchased before (or haven’t purchased for a while), we can help you understand the ins and outs of the standard Tasmanian Contract for Sale.
We can also help with conveyancing if you are looking to transfer a house between family members or completing a private sale without an agent.
