Support for LGBTQI+ Families
Going through a family breakdown is an emotional time. We understand that seeing a lawyer following separation can be even more daunting for individuals who identify as part of the LGBTQI+ community.
Since same-sex marriage became legal in December 2017, there is little to differentiate same-sex and heterosexual relationships under the Family Law Act 1975. At least on paper. In reality, it can still be hard to find a supportive environment as a member of the LGBTQI+ community.
Sexual orientation does not affect your rights under the Family Law Act and Advocate Lawyers don’t believe it should affect your legal representation. We welcome LGBTQI+ clients and their families.
We understand all families and individuals are unique and welcome all clients regardless of background, gender or family makeup. The Family Court has come a long way and you should not feel anxious about going through the system as an individual who identifies as lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, trans, queer, questioning, intersex +.
Advocate Lawyers supports the SignPost project by Working It Out.
SignPost is an easy way to find inclusive services or businesses who promote themselves as an LGBTI welcoming space.
