Angela was first admitted as a solicitor in NSW in 1990. She worked in intellectual property law for nearly fifteen years, firstly in Sydney, then Hong Kong and the Asian region, then Brussels and Spain. She is also admitted to the High Court of Hong Kong and the Supreme Court of England and Wales.
Following her return to Tasmania, she spent time in the Northern Territory with the Katherine Aboriginal Families Support Unit doing a variety of court work, including bush courts in remote regions of the country. Upon completion of an honours degree in anthropology, Angela completed a legal-anthropology internship with an Aboriginal corporation in Kununurra, WA, working on Native Title, kinship and royalties from diamond mines. Dr Ryan was awarded her PhD from the University of Tasmania in 2016, and is a member of the Australian Anthropological Society.
She has served on Glenorchy City Council as an Alderman and volunteered with the Tasmanian Refugee Legal Service. She has worked for Ombudsman Tasmanian in the Right to Information team and with the ATO in SMSF regulation and compliance.
Angela joined Advocate Lawyers in 2024. Angela has a broad background with knowledge that is an asset across a range of areas but she is currently focused on the areas of property, estate planning, estate administration and disputes and matters before TASCAT.
